How To Inserting and Removing Your Jewellery

Wear
TummyToys®

Watch the step by step guide (left) for changing your TummyToys® belly button ring. Your solid silver TummyToys® belly rings should be soaked in alcohol for at least 1 minute before inserting in your navel, even when new. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercings. For more information about changing your piercing, click here. When opening the clasp, gently snap open from the top end (opposite end to the 925/14k hallmark stamps). Do not use pliers as this will damage your jewellery. If initially your clasp is too tight to open, watch the video and then double check your opening from the top end - opposite side of the hallmark stamp, try gently using the tip of your finger to push back. Feel free to contact us for assistance.

Cleaning Your TummyToys®

Caring for your TummyToys body jewellery helps eliminate the chances of infection and keeps your jewellery looking shiny and new.

All body jewelry will collect body oils and other small particles. Clean your body jewelry in jewellery cleaner and scrub gently with a small brush in the indented areas where grime could build up. We recommend using Connoisseurs cleaning products on a weekly basis.

TummyToys® belly rings are made from precious materials like gold and 925 solid silver, which means they will tarnish over time. Shining your navel jewellery with a Goddard's Polishing Cloth will remove the tarnish, restore the original shine and assist with protecting the silver.

How To Adjusting the Lock Mechanism

Clasp
Tightness

Like an earring, your TummyToys® belly button ring may lose its snap over the years. All you need to do is bend the curved post ever so slightly by putting your finger under the notched bit, supporting the hinge and lift up gently. You do not need to use pliers as this will damage your TummyToys® body jewellery.

Likewise, if your clasp is too tight this can also be easily adjusted. Watch the video guide to loosen/tighten your clasp. Feel free to contact us for assistance.

Understanding Metal Types

925 Silver is the metal we use in TummyToys® it is an alloy called Sterilite, DeOx or Argentum. These alloys do not contain any nickel, which is what most people have allergic reactions to. Essentially they are all variations on nickel-free silver. In addition, there is a large body of evidence that silver itself has antimicrobial and healing properties! Read the Wiki

316 Stainless Steel is the workhorse alloy for the jewellery industryís stainless needs. It is composed of approximately 60% iron, 18% chromium, and 14% nickel with small percentages of molybdenum, manganese, and others. Despite the fact that 316L has 14% Nickel, it is still considered among the most biocompatible of the stainless series. It has been used in the medical industry for heart stents and spinal implants, among others. Nevertheless, it is important to be aware of the risk for nickel sensitivity when using this alloy for body jewelry applications. This is particularly true for piercing designs where, ironically, it is the most popular.

If you suspect you have a metal allergy, it is important to consult your doctor to be certain an underlying infection isn't the cause. Once your allergy has been confirmed, consider switching metals to find one that works for you. If you were previously using Surgical Steel, why not try TummyToys® 925 Silver Designer Belly Rings and Classic Sleepers, or the TummyToys® Solid Gold range.
